I love Hammond Organ tunes. a lot of the younger folks never heard one played in person.
a lot of the old folks had one. back around 1999 while painting the interior of an elderly couple's house, on the golf course, the old man would randomly play a tune, volume turned up good and loud, maraca beat going and stepping on pedals and flailing away on the keys, pushing buttons, and it was great.

that old man was a member of the last generation of organists. up until about the year you cited, there were still organ stores in malls. our local mall had one, only senior citizens went in there, probably with a fondness for organs obtained from years of watching the lawrence welk show and from traditional hymns. now the organ has died away from even the church. i dont know of a single church in my area that still uses the tried and true setup of the congregation singing hymns accompanied by the piano & organ. the current method of 'worship songs' is rather cheap and musically in bad taste.
