'73 Super Glide Review

Read the (mostly) scathing review that Cycle Magazine gave the FX-1200 back in 1973. The magazine seemed to write off HDs throughout the 60's & 70's. It seems like they just really hated the people who rode them.

Notice the speedometer needle is broken and resting at the bottom of the dial due to vibration.

It is a terrible vibration,
probably is it intense test driving?

Another great find.

Cycle was pretty harsh, but I'd plunk down the $2500.00 for one in good shape!

motor hill - im thinking they just ragged it out on their 'test run' probably never intended to give a fair review. cycle hardly ever featured harleys in the 60s & 70s.

hermit - wish i could find one for 2500 right now.

I'd agree that the reviewer(s) had it in for Harley. The suggestion that "no Super Glide owner would ever venture where footpegs scrape" or "subject his $2475 freighter to the cold, harsh light of the drag strip" is insulting and laughable: I've done both (and much, much more) with my '74 FX.

I'll admit that the stock Super had some faults, including the rightly criticized Cobra seat and a massive gap between 2nd and 3rd gears, but at its core it was a fine heavyweight machine, capable of so much more than Cycle gives credit for. I purchased my '74 in early 1979, w. 8K on the clock. I've put over a half-million on it since, and, if I live long enough, I plan to ride it into the old folks' home someday. No time soon, mind you, but one day!
